Neil Bruss

Champion trainer 8 times in Zimbabwe, Neil Bruss was forced by the political situation in his home country to move to KZN in the early part of this century. Neil made an immediate impact, soon sending out Group 1 and 2 winners from his new home.

Neil’s finest hour came in 2006 when Zebra Crossing won the J&B Met, Cape Town’s biggest race. The victory all the more notable, as the winner won in the colours of Neil’s late father, and was part owned by Neil’s brother Robin

After a brief flirtation with UK racing, Neil moved to Saudi Arabia where he was the private trainer to Prince Faisal. In 2009 he trained the first and second in the highly prestigious Kings Cup, Neil supplemented this feat by filling third and fourth, with the same two horses, in the Dubai World Cup. Neil returned to KZN and was soon back to his winning ways with August Rush winning the Group 1 Mercury Sprint.

Neil moved on to Cape Town in 2012 and is concentrating on training a small group of quality racehorses from his base in Milnerton. Now settled in at his new yard Neil is maintaining an excellent strike rate with his runners.
